Please join US team member and Colorado Children's Chorale alumna Akemi Tsutsui-Kunitake '08 for a morning session of Karate Kangeiko - an intro to karate for all ages that focuses on bringing positivity and energy into the new year.

This one-hour class will invigorate your body and mind, as you explore karate in the comfort of your living room. If, after this free, introductory class, you feel you'd like to pursue karate as a new year's resolution, you can find more classes at the dojo Akemi teaches at: Colorado Budokan.

Following the instruction, Akemi will answer any questions on her martial art or experience as top-ranking karate professional in the US.

Assistant Instructor at Colorado Budokan, Akemi Tsutsui-Kunitake, was born in Denver, Colorado and began her formal Shotokan karate training under her father, Sensei Isao Gary Tsutsui in 1997. In addition to having a strong Shotokan base from her training with Sensei Tsutsui, Akemi has been fortunate to train with karate masters of different styles in California, Hawaii and Japan. Akemi competes regularly and has medaled in the Junior International Cup, USA Open, USANKF/USA Karate Nationals, and countless local and national events. She is currently a two-time USA Karate Senior Team pool member and trains full time in addition to working as an independent artist and small business owner of Live Deliciously. Her artwork is crafted in pen and ink and mixes themes from Japanese folklore and Anglo-European fairy tales.

Aside from karate and drawing, Akemi occasionally writes for local newsletters and magazines, and is a consultant for the Japanese Arts Network.

Akemi holds a Bachelor of Arts in Ethnic Studies from the University of Colorado Denver.

This Zoomeez class and Q/A is free to attend, but if you enjoy yourself, we hope you will consider making a donation, to help us reach our goal of $400,000 by the end of the season so we may weather the COVID-19 crisis. As a performing arts organization, we rely on donations and ticket sales to thrive.

This class is for all ages. We recommend participating in an open area of your home and wearing active wear.

We're sorry, the deadline for registering for this event has passed.
